Now Paula has expanded her reach to many other states where she is sharing her valuable experiences which will help so many others achieve the knowledge they desperately desire and deserve. Thank you Paula and to all those who support similar legislation everywhere. My wife and I have an adopted child through Open Adoption because we understand the importance of access to records and family when our son is old enough. The best way to answer questions is to have your child ask the people who made the decisions!

Comment on Mothers of Loss Remember Their Children

January 14, '09

As a mother of adoption child-loss still without my precious son, he's my only child from my only pregnancy, it anguishes me daily not only that I don't know about him but also that those whom I must beg for information most often mis-treat me. Whether or not their meanness toward me is warranted is not the issue.

Rather the issue is two-fold actually. On the one hand since my son is classified as an adult adoptee he's certainly entitled to have all the information including his original birth certificate which may or may not list him as "Baby Boy Caudle" that exists in his adoption-related file but also as his biological mother there's certain information about me such as that about my "un-wed mother" status which led to him as my child being ripped away from me and my parental rights being terminated against my will.

On the other hand it is this type of derogatory information about her as the mother of her child along with that which lists abandonment by her the mother as the basis for the child being removed from her custody--and placed out for adoption--which lawyers, judges, and social workers et al know usually not only criminalizes her as the biological mother as a party to adoption but also may provide a basis for her as the child's natural mother to ultimately litigate the whole matter. This constitutes one of the un-spoken truths about why adult adoptees keep running into obstinate resistance by adoption lawyers and social workers et al to open their adoption-related files.

In other words that information which may criminalize the respective natural mother involved, if she's still living, could lead to litigation. And those who transacted the respective adoption, if they also remain alive, don't want to be held legally liable.

Then there's the issue of legal acknowledgment of natural mothers. This terminology does remain a legal concept.

All the efforts to re-cast natural mothers--as FIRST mothers, mothers of adoption child-loss, childless mothers, and such--never will satisfy those who came second. This then may explain the un-reason resistance to opening adoption records.

Additionally there's the "in-house" adoptions of social workers, lawyers et al. These folks themselves who adopt [a] child[ren] placed in their agency or law firm's custody and control who is to be adopted OUT but is adopted by a social worker, lawyer, judge, etc. of the office instead.

As a mother of my child who was snatched away from me then adopted out away from me under concealment I do want my son to have those files which record his experience relative to him being taken from me. Simultaneously I also want to see those files.

Such is the basis for the almost paranoid opposition to open these records. In other words the reason relates more to crime and less to other factors.

Thank You,
Kathy Caudle
Natural Mother

Comment on Illinois laws could affect Indiana laws

I can't imagine how awful it would be to not know anything about your past. My heart goes out to those who are trying to locate their birthparents.

My wife and I adopted our son through open adoption so he would always have a relationship with his birthmother and he would have access to those critical facts that help a person understand who they are, where they are from, and how they come to be.

Good luck Illinois Adoptees!

Comment on NEWS UPDATE on MAINE

Thank the Lord.....The truth is being seen....now lets watch other states follow!....This is so awesome

Comment on Adoptee Rights Protest/Coalition Announces New Blog

Thank you!
